PROSTATE ULTRASOUND (PELVIC ULTRASOUND IN MEN) IN LVIV
Prostate ultrasound in Lviv is one of the fastest and most informative methods for diagnosing the condition of the prostate gland. There are transabdominal and transrectal prostate ultrasounds (performed through the anterior abdominal wall or rectum, respectively). The study allows for the quick detection of inflammatory diseases of the prostate, age-related enlargement of the gland in men over 60 years, tumors, and other pathologies.
A Prostate Ultrasound is Recommended if You Have One or More of the Following Symptoms:
- Pain in the lower abdomen or back that radiates to the perineum or legs
- Frequent trips to the toilet
- Discomfort or pain during urination
- Redness or cyanosis of the scrotum
- Problems with potency
- Enlarged subcutaneous veins of the scrotum
Annual preventive ultrasound examination of the prostate is indicated for all men aged 45 and over.
Diseases Diagnosed with Pelvic Ultrasound in Lviv
A prostate ultrasound in Lviv allows the detection of:
- Adenoma of the Prostate — a benign neoplasm. Symptoms include frequent urination and urinary retention, with the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying. Most often diagnosed in older men; statistics show that about 50% of men over 60 years of age are affected. Early-stage adenoma responds well to treatment, while advanced stages may require surgery. On ultrasound, adenomatous nodules in the prostate tissue are visible.
- Prostate Cancer — a malignant formation. This disease can sometimes be asymptomatic, which makes regular ultrasound after the age of 50–60 essential. Men over 60 are more likely to develop prostate cancer than younger men.
- Prostatitis — inflammation of the prostate gland, often accompanied by pain and burning during urination and sexual dysfunction. On ultrasound, the gland may appear enlarged, with areas of inflammation visible.
- Cysts — fluid-filled formations within the gland, usually developing against the background of advanced prostatitis. Cysts are easily detected during ultrasound.
You can undergo a prostate ultrasound in Lviv using modern equipment at the Korona Medical Center. The clinic also provides puncture biopsy procedures (taking a small tissue sample for further examination) under ultrasound guidance.
How Transabdominal Prostate Ultrasound Is Performed at the Korona Clinic
Prostate ultrasound in Lviv at the Korona clinic takes place as follows:
- The doctor applies a special gel to the patient’s lower abdomen.
- Ultrasound is performed using a sensor guided over the abdomen. The sensor captures ultrasound waves reflected from the prostate and transmits the information to a device that converts it into an image for the doctor to analyze.
- Diagnostics are conducted in transverse and longitudinal planes, and if necessary, in oblique or other arbitrarily selected planes for better visualization.
- During the examination, the size and structure of the prostate are assessed, along with the bladder and seminal vesicles. For example, an increased amount of residual urine in the bladder may indicate impaired prostate function.
- The doctor evaluates all changes in the organ. Acute inflammation appears as areas of reduced echogenicity (darker regions), while calcifications appear as bright formations with shadows.
- Typically, the procedure lasts 15–20 minutes. The doctor examines the vessels, structure, and tissue of each lobe of the gland.
Patients experience minimal physical discomfort during the procedure.
Preparation for Prostate Ultrasound
Transabdominal ultrasound is performed without inserting a probe into the rectum. No special preparation is required for this type of examination. The only important requirement is to have a full bladder, as the prostate gland is located directly beneath it and will be better visualized this way. To achieve this, drink approximately 1 liter of still water about 60–90 minutes before the procedure and avoid urinating until after the ultrasound.
