Radiofrequency ablation is one of the best, most painless and fastest methods of removal of the lower extremities varicose veins. The treatment is carried out with the help of special equipment without incisions and during one visit.

How Does RF Ablation Work?

The method of radiofrequency ablation can be used for varicose veins of any diameter at all stages of the disease. Surgical clinic "Korona" uses a Covidien Vnus RFG 2 Revision 4.6.0 Generator (USA) radiofrequency generator for treatment. A special catheter is inserted into a vein, heating the vein walls to about 120 ° C. The length of the applied part of the radiofrequency catheter is 7 cm. Each vein segment is treated sequentially for 20 seconds. After each cycle, the catheter is simply moved for the next 7 cm and a new vein cycle is activated at a click of a button. Special markings on the catheter make it possible to advance it exactly to the required distance. The whole procedure is performed under ultrasound control. With a feedback sensor, there is no need to calculate the power supply. Tumescent anaesthesia and external pressure provide a required close contact of the applied part of the catheter with the vein wall. Treating one vein takes an average of 3-5 minutes. Technical parameters are displayed on the screen of the radiofrequency generator in real time.

RF energy is safer, so it’s well tolerated by a patient. During the treatment, radiofrequency waves act directly on type II collagen, and thus the vein is closed without damaging the venous wall and other surrounding vessels and tissues.

Such surgery is prescribed by phlebologist taking into account the medical history and the diagnostic examination data on the current health condition of a patient.
