WHY PREGNANCY CONTRIBUTES TO HEMORRHOIDS AND VARICOSE VEINS
Pregnancy is a natural state for a woman, and everyone looks forward to the joyful moment of welcoming a healthy baby into the world.
At the same time, the growing baby in the mother’s womb can compress the veins of the pelvis with its weight, which worsens venous outflow from the lower part of the body (below the navel). Due to this impaired blood flow, pressure increases in the pelvic venous system, leading to enlarged nodes that cause pain when inflamed. These nodes are called hemorrhoidal nodes, and the resulting condition is known as hemorrhoids.
Another condition triggered by the same causes is varicose veins or varicose vein disease. It develops in the system of superficial veins of the lower limbs and is accompanied by symptoms such as bulging veins, swelling and heaviness in the legs by the end of the day, itching and burning along the veins, and leg cramps.
During childbirth, additional strain further increases pressure, which negatively affects both hemorrhoid flare-ups and the progression of varicose disease.
If a woman experiences worsening symptoms of hemorrhoids or varicose veins during pregnancy or after childbirth, she must consult a vascular surgeon and a proctologist.
